### Basic Information:

Printer Model: recent Merc-1 CoreXY modified Ender5+, with Phaetus HF/Sherpa Mini
 MCU / Printerboard: Stock
 Host / SBC RPi-4
 klippy.log

[klippy (3).log](https://klipper.discourse.group/uploads/short-url/jZFC2gHkrpIGzN12XAY54RqqXDO.log) (3.0 MB)

_Fill out above information and_ _ **in all cases attach your** _ **`klippy.log` _file_** (use zip to compress it, if too big). _Pasting your_ `printer.cfg` _is **not** needed_

### Describe your issue:

Completed Klipper Pressure advance test & updated the setting to .085; Cura sliced test cube shown: 3 sides are excellent, sharp corners. The fourth side (increasing along Y-axis) is crappy! Around that corner (decreasing X-axis) is a bit rough, but not as bad. Again, the opposite side (decreasing along Y-axis) is excellent. Any thoughts on what’s going on or how to address would be appreciated.

FYI- extruder calibration & input shaping have all been done. Belts are tight, everything lubed, z-offset & bed mesh are dead on with excellent first layer results. Dimensional accuracy is less than +/-4%. Square was printed with 0.2 height & speed dialed down to 100, acceleration 1000, 0.4 nozzle. Cura’s jerk and coast are disabled, outer wall wipe distance is set to 0.5

What am I doing wrong here?

I have to assume the bad corner is the “seam”.

Been a minute since I used Cura. As I recall there are settings for “retract on layer change” and “extra length on de-retract” that could be effecting the one corner.

Quick check - set seam to “random” and reslice and print.

I assume you’re referring to the location for the Z-axis shift. It’s currently set for the “sharpest corner” but I’ll set to “random” and reprint. The defect starts ~5mm before the relevant corner. In the meantime, here’s a calibration cube that hopefully shows the location better. The defective seam feels rough, and is visibly irregular.

Changed the seam option to RANDOM. All of the edges now show periodic distortion. Obviously the origin of the problem is the Z-seam associated settings, although what, I’m not sure. At least now I have the problem narrowed down and can play with the various settings to see what clears the issue. So thank you!!

Maybe some changes in other parameter like acceleration, retract, coasting, …?
e.g. coasting has to be switched off in the slicer, or the higher the acceleration, the lower the PA Value, …
In my case I readjust/set the PA Value to my needs on the fly, from time to time, if I face issues with my prints.

Check for loose screws on the toolhead, hotend or nozzle not tight…

Thanks, but I don’t see how that would affect just one corner. That and belts were my first approach

Retraction distance increased from 1 to 5mm (the extruder has a long filament path), and I moved Z seam to inside (instead of random). The outside corner is somewhat better, but most of the issues seem to have moved to the inside on the same corner. The two pictures are of the same corner. Appears the problem is still there…

Just for testing… did you tryed other slicers?

And PA 0.045 seems a bit much for sherpa mini. I have 6 sherpa mini working and my PA is 0.025…

The part cooling is ok? Maibe increase layer time/lower speeds…(does that corner curl up during printing?)

Print a temperature tower, maybe the nozzle temps are off…

Sorry, that was a typo. The actual PA is 0.085, and that was derived from Klippers PA test print. Prior setting (much lower) was giving me bulging corners, which have now cleared up, except for this one side. BTW the printer is a Mercury-One CoreXY conversion of an ender 5 plus…

I’m working on entering the appropriate values into PrusaSlicer, my other go-to slicer. I’ll post results when done

I may just have to give up on klipper & go back to jerk & coast settings. Corners weren’t perfect but better than this nonsense!

Thanks

cardoc: I misstated - I meant the hot end, and it takes about 22mm to unload filament. The temps are probably on, but even if significantly off, I don’t see how that would effect one corner only

Your issue is with the seam not the corner.

> [@MattyKlem](#):
>
> Klippers PA test print. Prior setting

The 5 sided tower? that one forces the seam to the middle of the straight run to AVOID the confusion on corner VS seam.

Paint the seam in the middle if your cube. Reslice, print.

> **[Pressure advance - Klipper documentation](https://www.klipper3d.org/Pressure_Advance.html)**

It prints a cube with the seam inside. Starts at PA=0 and advances by 0.02 as it goes up. My best corner was at PA=0.085.

I’m going to transfer parameters to prusaslicer this week and reprint & see if it makes a difference

Solved!

Transferred settings to PrusaSlicer, came out with perfect corners. I don’t know what’s going on with Cura, but this took care of it.

Thank you all…
