-I’ve been struggling with this issue forever now and I think I finally have a solution but I want some second thoughts before I buy anything.
I’ve been having this strange issue with my Pi where whenever I boot with the mcu plugged in, plug in the MCU after boot or do a FIRMWARE_RESTART my entire system crashes. It happens about 80% of the time, and aside from some strange electrical issues with my system
building up static electricity and touching my desk causes artifacts on the Pi screen from across the room, bed thermistor reading -300C even though the right sensor is defined in printer.cfg AND it was working on the original printer I pulled it off of, etc. (yes the printer is grounded)
it’s really the only thing preventing me from actually printing for the first time. I did some digging and apparently it’s introducing an inrush current (even though my cable is data only), which dips the Pi’s voltage and hard crashes it. I was just wondering if anyone that’s had the same problem can give me input as to whether I should get a USB voltage isolator or a powered usb hub. It could be something else entirely but my Pi shows no errors during the crashes making it impossible to diagnose and I figured that would be a good first step.
If it helps, at one point I was getting repeated kernel panic messages on my screen but all the logs told me the system was never kernel panicking at all, and my CPU and RAM stress tests came back okay as well.
