Klipper not connecting after new installation

I cannot seem to connect to my printer anymore after I reinstalled my Raspberry pi 3. Config files worked fine before reinstallation, but unfortunately I had to reinstall due to failing SD card. The printer used to work flawlessly but unfortunately the pi didn’t boot anymore. I was able to get the config files from the broken SD card, so they are identical to the previously working files.

I have installed Klipper, Moonraker and KlipperScreen through KIAUH, the system is up to date.

Logfile is incomplete, the following lines showed up later:

Got EOF when reading from device
Timeout with MCU 'mcu' (eventtime=1758.578716)

Got EOF when reading from device strictly speaking is not a Klipper error.
This means that the Linux operating system on your host has an issue with a USB device, in this case your MCU.
You can use sudo dmesg to check for USB relevant error messages. Most likely some hardware thing:

  • bad USB cable
  • bad USB connectors
  • other hardware defects

dmesg does not report any errors

I have exchanged the USB cable for a different one, but to no avail.

In moonraker.log, I see the following recurring error:

Method not found

The issue has been resolved!

Apparently my re-installation was on another dying SD-card. A brand new SD card with another complete re-install solved the issue!

Unfortunately, I was happy too early. I’ve had two succesful prints, turned off the printer, turned it on again and it doesn’t want to connect anymore. Klippy.log is filled with the following lines:

I tried to upload my klippy.log but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to want to do that.

We will need the klippy.log, upload e.g. zipped. From the snippet as posted nothing can be seen.

Here is another klippy.log, from my test today. Printer is turned on, klippy doesn’t want to connect. I attempted 2 times.

One thing I noticed is that the connection of Klipper/Moonraker to my TP Link plug did not work when my prints were running. After a reboot, they work, but then my klipper stopped working. I tried removing the connection with the TP link plug but to no avail.

I’m not sure what you are reporting.
The klippy(3).log above does not contain any Klipper errors. On the contrary, it shows a successful start.

As for the zipped log and the EOF error there is not much more to say about unfortunately: Your host’s Linux is reporting that the data stream from the MCU is gone.
This usually is a hardware issue. I’m almost 105% sure that this is not any Klipper issue, since

  • your setup is nothing special
  • BTT SKR 1.4 is common board
  • I’m running it in one of my printers as well since years on different host platform, e.g. RPI3, OPi 3 LTS and currently on a Tinkerboard
    As you found out, even a dying SD card can cause such issues. This means such things are quite hard to debug since this error message gives no clue as to the why.

You can use the command

sudo dmesg -wH

to permanently monitor the Kernel buffer. If you start a print now and get an EOF and you see anything in the dmesg out relating to USB then you have yet another indication.

That’s unfortunate… My Fluidd interface keeps reporting “Klippy is not connected” and I cannot do anything, let alone start a print… :frowning:

Hey, that seemed to solve the issue, I can connect to the printer again! Would you mind explaining what that edit did exactly?

  • The klippy.env contains arguments to tell Klipper where to put its log, where the printer.cfg is etc.
  • Among these arguments is also the path where Klipper puts the interface to moonraker - a so called socket. This is given by the -a argument
  • As far as I’m aware, moonraker accepts two socket locations:
    • /tmp/klippy_uds
    • <datapath>/comms/moonraker.sock
  • Default is /tmp/klippy_uds but can be set in the moonraker config
  • From your last log, I saw you had neither one but ~/printer_data/comms/klippy.sock
