“Independent” was meant as relating to potentially affecting each other in terms of print quality. Of course, even when connecting both to the same mains line, there is some sort of dependence.

I remember seeing a demonstration of a series of grandfather clocks which were known to only be accurate to ±2 minutes / day syncing up so they all kept time with each other and their overall time was the average of all their inaccuracy. It depended on them all standing in the same room with a wooden floor which allowed the ticking to set up resonance between them.
