hello,
noob here trying to use an mks gen l v2.1 for my klipper build (1st build) and i cannot seem to find a defualt .cfg file to use.
i would try to build my own but i dont wanto to screw up as mapping is quite important.
if any one has a working .cfg for a cartesian style printer please post it so i can use it for refrence. TIA
Use klipper/config/generic-ramps.cfg at master · Klipper3d/klipper · GitHub

is there no ready pin out for such an old board im sure someone in the community has one? i am afraid to get it wrong and ruin a board or worse a fire.
I’m not sure what you are missing. What is this “ready pin” supposed to do?
like an example for this specific board? i am very new to this
You could call this board a MKS “clone” of the popular RAMPS layout. Should work and if not, we can get it sorted.
thank you so much for your help unfortunately i popped the input voltage fuse as i finished flashing FML. now i need to find a board thats under $10 for this pocket build.
It might be a seldom phenomenon, that a fuse blows when flashing the MCU. I doubt that, but I have seen strange things during my “electronic” life.
A fuse blows, to protect your hardware. So, I think something else went wrong.
Why don’t you just replace the fuse?
No I do not belive it has anything todo with the flashing most probably me fumbling with the cables , as for replacing the fuse I done have that small of an 15a fuse on hand and I can almost guarantee I work mess up the Re soldering ….. have any suggestions for a $10~ board that can have a runout sensor and 3 pins for z endstop?
What was the value of the original fuse, which blew?
Post a picture, I’m very positive that is fixable!
Sorry, I can’t read that “15a” on the photo. But anyway we could have a look in the bom (MKS-GEN_L/hardware/MKS Gen_L V2.1_001/MKS Gen_L V2.1_001 BOM.pdf at master · makerbase-mks/MKS-GEN_L · GitHub). F2 = 15A, package F1206.
More interesting is a picture of the board after
This is it is the board after, I didn’t realize it was dead because the usb 5v was still able to power the board but when I unplugged the usb I saw the psu still on and the board dead (no led) and whipped out the tester to find 12v on the green terminal but the fuse beyond it dead ….
Good, nothing lost Did you measure the broken fuse with a multi-meter? Is it broken?
I got to go to bed, sorry too late.
Yes I did a continuity test and saw it was blown
Good, so we know the fuse did its job, it blew
It’s a little hard to understand your meaning/thoughts for me. I guess you are like me a non native English speaker and writer. So please be patient with me, when I ask more than once. By the way, on which continent do you live?
To summarize it up:
-
you didn’t try to replace the fuse?
-
do you have a soldering iron? If yes, please post pictures of the machine and especially of the soldering tip.
Sorry for the bad English I am from the usa but ya I can see how my text is hard to understand.
Anyway I have a standard soldering iron but to my understanding I would be better with some soldering paste and directed heat gun. I just need to order a fuse and get to work
But on second hand I’d prefer to use what I have and I have a spare btt e3 v3 so I will probably use that.
What state? I was living in San Francisco for about 2 years. I know Arizona and Utha just by travelling. I enjoyed the stay and learned a lot from your folks.
Anyway back to your MKS Gen_L V2.1,
With some “home” soldering irons you can fix rain gutters (that’s why the question)! Not good to fix a PCB. Way too much power.
No, do it with an appropriate soldering iron and the right soldering tip@the right temperature. It’s no rocket science! In your case, I would recommend to solder the new fuse on top of the blown one.
Ok, if you want to fix your MKS Gen_L V2.1 and stumble into problems, just start a new thread. Good luck with the btt e3 v3.
I will thanks for all advice , I’ve never herd of soldering onto of a dead component but first I’ll need to find the fuse to order
Soldering the new fuse on top of the dead one eliminates the danger to destroy your pads.
Aliexpress is usually the best source for that. Shipping for 10 fuses is less than 2 bucks.
