Raspberry can't find Wanhao Duplicator d12/300 USB printer

Hello,

I have a 3D printer, a Wanhao Duplicator D12/300 and I want to test Klipper because I can not print well with the official drivers or those of Neo… As the Wanhao support leaves a lot to be desired, I hope to find some help from you

So I flashed two Raspberry 3 via the official “Raspberry Pi Imager” app to put on a new 32GB SD “MainSail 1.3.2” and configure everything from the app to access it in SSH and via the url http://klipper.local/. So far, so good…

In SSH, I did a

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo apt install git

Then, via MobaXterm, I did a make menuconfig under /klipper to set these parameters

Klipper firmware configuration

[*] Enable additional low-level configuration options
Microcontroller architecture (STMicroelectronics STM32) —>
Processor model (STM32F407) —>
Bootloader offset (bootloader 48KiB (MKS Robin Nano V3)) —>
Clock reference (8 MHz crystal) —>
Communication interface (USB (on PA11/PA12)) —>
USB identifiers —>
() GPIO pins to be configured at microcontroller start-up

All these parameters are taken from the photo of my printer’s motherboard…

  • MakerBase MKS Robin Nano V3.1 motherboard
  • STM32F407 processor
  • Bootloader the one that corresponds to my machine I think…
  • Clock: the little component referenced CPS 8.000

There are still two lines where I’m not 100% sure and it’s ChatGPT who helped me on this one…

(Top) → USB ids
Klipper firmware configuration
(0x1d50) USB vendor ID
(0x614e) USB device ID
[CHIPID USB serial number
(12345) USB serial number

and

() GPIO pins to be configured at microcontroller startup

Then I saved my config, followed by a make clean and a make

I renamed the klipper.bin file to Robin_nano_v3.bin and prepared an 8GB µSD card formatted in FAT32, 4096-byte sectors and flashed my printer.

So I’ve got my machine flashed, a usbA/usbA cable, an Rpi 3 with Klipper and MainSail v1.3.2 but I can’t activate the usb port (I’ve rebooted all equipment, tested a second RpI and a second cable)

Who can help me?

Hi Akhlan,
are you a Klipper beginner?
Is this your printer? Wanhao Duplicator D12/300 3D Printer Review – 3D Tech Valley

Yes i’m beginner, i never used Klipper… And yes it’s my printer, my first printer…

Ok, so we know that. Good thing is you have Linux knowledge!

Reading the review from above gives me the impression, there will be no problem installing Klipper on your printer.

Warning! Don’t try to install Klipper, if you don’t exactly know what you are doing! You might delete the bootloader on your µC of your printer board. This is recoverable, but a little tricky.

Please check, if this is your printer board and post the writing on the µC.

Main part of Klipper on a printer is a file called printer.cfg. You may find examples here klipper/config at master · Klipper3d/klipper · GitHub. Too bad, your printer isn’t listed yet.
But a quick search in the WWW gave me Wanhao D12 (300) - Klipper - Direct Drive - Dragon - Orbiter - Wanhao - Forum pour les imprimantes 3D et l'impression 3D. My French isn’t that good, but I think you might find a printer.cfg in this forum. Download it.

Else, please read a lot  Overview - Klipper documentation, Knowledge Base - Klipper, and Welcome! | Ellis’ Print Tuning Guide

I’m very positive, you get your Wanhao Duplicator running with Klipper.

Thanks hcet14,

my µC is an STM32, my processor an STM32F407

I’m French, so it’s easier for me to read your link… I know this web page but it’s an old tutorial and some links are dead…

I’m reading your documents but it’s a bit complicated

I continue…

This is a well-known board, and there should be no major issues. Also see:

Mind that renaming the klipper.bin file is required.

There also seems to be a dedicated page here: Klipper Wanhao D12 installation - YUMI-LAB documentation

Overall, it seems like a classic issue of flashing the board. The relevant reasons are listed here: Issues flashing the printer board

The link Sineos provided leads to GitHub - Yumi-Lab/yumi-config: cfg files for YUMI products where you may find the right printer.cfg.

Regarding installation of Klipper, I would choose the KIAUH way https://klipper.discourse.group/t/installing-klipper-with-kiauh.
