I am running a printer with just the PINDA probe for homing, z-tilt, and bed mesh. I have read conflicting information on the use of relative reference index, although the klipper docs state that it should only be used if using a z endstop switch AND a bed probe.
Is this correct? I think many people are having bed levelling issues because they are using relative reference index on a printer with just a probe.
I use it with just a bltouch. I moved my Z homing probe position to match one of the mesh probe points near the center of my bed. And set that to my relative reference index.
I don’t know if this setting is related, but I haven’t had to do a z offset calibration in months and I get perfect 1st layers. But I have a routine to calibrate bed level.
I was using a similar method and it seemed to work for the most part. I have seen a few posts that state that the bed mesh is independent of all other probing routines and it shouldnt matter as the mesh will adjust to your homing probes and z tilt probes. I can see where having the Z endstop switch might work well with a relative reference index, but again… nothing seems to clarify it really.
