Want to rid of sonic pad haha

Basic Information:

Printer Model: ender 6, ender 3v2 and currendt build voron 2.4
MCU / Printerboard:skr mini e3, and building manta m4p for ender 6

so this isnt really a problem other then i cant decide, now ive had enough of constantly fixing the sonic pad and have read this debian install onto the sonic pad, but i cant decide lol.

  1. i have a crap ton of laptops sitting around dong nothing, so should i convert them and install a stable linux mint then debian and klipper/kiahu?

  2. do i swap the sonic pad os to the github respository for the swap? it looks a little difficult but i might be reading it incorrectly.

  3. wait for my manta m4p build and use the hdmi7 screen, and find a screen to work with the ender 3v2 skr e3 v3??

any thoughts concerns etc, please feel free to chime in hopefully some who have done what im thinking might share their experience.

thank you!!

I actually have a laptop installed with Ubuntu and put OctoPrint onto it and it runs fine.
If your laptops are not too old, they are more powerful than an Pi.
It like a Sonic Pad with more power and a larger screen.

So I can recommend point 1.

Also, you cant do nothing wrong with trying it.

If you have an M4P (not sure what “wait for my manta m4p build” means), why don’t you get a CB1 to go with it?

It’s an extra $30USD, but a lot less hassle.

cause i dont Have it in my hands, hence “wait for my manta m4p build” which i will be getting next week…
and i bought the kit which comes with the cb1 and heatsink, and the 4 tmc2209. but still need a screen to go with it.

I appreciate your recommendation, ubuntu os was it a pain to get going? Im pretty sure thats what i used when doing the firmware for the skr e3 but that was on virtual box as well.

No problems whatsoever.
Just get an image of Ubuntu, put it on a USB stick and install it on the laptop.

Then take a scripted tool (KIAUH) and get Klipper installed.

Thank you i will be doing that tomorrow for sure…im sick of this sonic pad.
