Describe your issue:
…Hi all, I have an old Sindoh 3DWOX 2x IDEX printer, and it has limitations to work nicely with, Like I can’t get it to work with another slicer and the propriety slicer doesn’t work well. But the build is nice, so is it woth the trouble to replace the controllerboard with for instance a Bigtree, remove the bowdentube extruders, and replace the printheads with direct drive extruders? I am sure it will be a pain to mount everything properly, but will I end up with a Klipper IDEX printer? (Newbe here)
The original firmware supports Cura and Simplify 3D.
I agree.
Does the printer use 24V or 12V? If just 12V, I wouldn’t do it.
That will be a lot of work and you’ll find almost no support! That’s a real challenge and very time consuming!
… and you’ll probably not be able to use the original display!
Thanks, very usefull considerations. I will check which components it has. I also saw the manual to use it with Cura, but you need a profile which was in the past downloadable, but i cannot find it on the website anymore.
Well, if someone could give an opinion on what the board look like.
And also someone was talking about the power supply, it look like the board is supplied at 5V.
Using the original board with Klipper will not work
Most components seem pretty standard, e.g. the thermistor or stepper connections should be easy to move to a different board, given you can figure out how the wires are assigned
There are some elements that might be challenging to move to Klipper, e.g. the connectors marked with “solenoid” or “clutch”
Overall seems doable but will require
solid understanding of the functionality of the current board
some electrical understanding about the components
solid understanding of Klipper and probably some macro coding. Worst case, it needs Klipper source code modifications for the special functions.
Hi all, seeing the replies, I think I should not do it. I am a bit familiar with technical challenges, But this is for me a bridge too far. I think it will probably work, but it will take a lot of time to figure it all out. I really think i should consider a new printer. @MS2core if you succeed, I would like to know the steps you took.
Thanks all
