I've been reading about toolchangers, which one should I get?

Hi,

I’ve been reviewing the toolchangers

Voron Tap
TapChanger
StealthChanger

As far as I can tell the switch to a fly gantry in voron-style printer is mostly about making Z-enabled tool changers… just a theory …

Anyway

There’s also the electromagnetic tool changers like

Vijaya ? (is that one open source)

the unnamed/unreleased one by Workshop Feedback (license unknown)

WoodPecker

The Woodpecker-DAKSH

and the DAKSH-v2 toolchanger

Did I miss any ?

What do you think about them ? Should I wait for some clear winner before getting my hands dirty ?

I might get a sovol sv08 and that would be the one that gets the tool changer, unless I build a voron v2…

As for what tools, I was thinking of aiming for the following tools holders

dremel
spindle + drill
spindle + milling flute/ball nose mill
router bit
mini sawblade
spindle with grinding wheel / cup
tapmatic-style tap holder
shaper cutter
microscope camera
inkjet cartridge
waterjet cutter
plasma cutter
pencil
exacto holder
glass cutter
sharpie
vibropeen
lasercutter
syringe dispenser
brush + paint pots
hand file
fiber laser holder
mirror X/Y stage
plate-in-place electrode
CMM stylus probe holder
hotwire foam cutter holder
pick-and-place suction tool
soldering iron (w\ solder dispenser ?)
EDM electrode holder

of and filament/resin dispenser I guess

What if I said “wait until all others have given up and only one will continue to develop”? … which would be the equivalent of “wait for some clear winner” (spoiler: that won’t happen).

Dude, I’m in the same stage as you are: I’m looking for a toolchanger for my v2.4 … If I were you, I would actually start with one, and if you don’t like it, you can still try another one.

Try what convinces you most after your reviews. Maybe things are more or less important to you and depending on that, chose your project. Be glad that there is no “winner” … that way you still have the choice.
Regards
M

After all I’ve read, if I had to choose now I would choose the DIY electromagnetic one, just because it doesn’t require Z motion of the gantry. I also think it has potential to be stiffer and there are many other good ideas in there.

3d Printers are not designed to do CNC functions like routing, so cross that off or build a separate cnc for that. Voron team is working on cnc machine.

I want to throw in another toolchanger - the Jubilee

It’s not mine, but I adopted it onto a Voron 2.4 (don’t ask me Why, it sounded like a fun challenge to me and its up and running a while now)
