Klipper Alpha for K1 Max and CMS

Hello everyone! This is my first post and I don’t really post on forums ever so please excuse me if I’m not in the right place. I used the search feature and ChatGPT to search for duplicate topics and didn’t come up with anything.

I’m curious about the Creality CMS for the K1 MAX and the alpha unofficial Klipper. Has anyone tried getting the CMS to work with real Klipper? Im just guessing here but does Creality use a klipper.config file on their “custom infringment” version of Klipper and if so, could one just copy those settings into a proper klipper.config on a Pie to get the CMS working? I’m sorry if this is a stupid thought. My gut is telling me they probably did some shady stuff to obfuscate the configs. I figured it would be worth asking. This question is the only thing keeping me from dumping the crappy Creality knock off fraud firmware in exchange for open source goodness. I hope I explained my question in a semi coherent way. Thanks and cheers!

Hello @Fractal !

This is no topic for Features but for General Discussion.

No problem I’m at work and on my phone and I dont see how to delete the thread. Mods feel free to delete it since it’s not productive.

I’ve read the information you linked me. I’ll just root the OEM Klipper clone garbage Creality firmware and answer my own question I guess lol.

It’s either custom macros or something beyond my capability and proprietary. It is what it is I suppose. I just wanted to see if anyone else had worked with this issue. I guess not. Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to have found these forums. Thanks

It still will be garbage Creality firmware .

I just found the thread where folks here are trying to reverse engineer it and sniff out the serial traffic.

At this point I’m so.mad I’ve lost interest and want to start a go fund me to give the Klipper devs money to sue the pants off of Creality for breaking the open source license.

China and IP theft is so out of hand and they only understand one thing. Financial pain.

Your assessment is largely correct:

  • Not compatible with the original Klipper, and there is currently no known way to make it compatible.
  • Violates the GPL v3 through closed-source modifications and a locked-down system.
  • Offers some half-baked “rooting” options that only allow you to work with additional components like KlipperScreen, but not with the core Klipper.
  • Demonstrates the same behavior across the board, ultimately at the expense of the users who end up with electronic waste on their desks, especially when the manufacturer decides that three months of product support are sufficient.
