Octoklipper vs Klipper

I have set up Octoprint on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ with my Anycubic Mega X and TMC 2209 drivers with Marlin firmware and I’m very satisfied with the results.
However, I recently discovered Klipper and heard with it, I can boost my print quality and speed even more.

Now to my questions:
I have searched multiple websites and never found a direct comparison between Octoklipper and Klipper.

What are the pro and cons of both options and how much will the print speed and overall performance be different?

And is my Raspberry Pi stong enogh for this setup or do I need an upgrade?

Please forgive me if I posted in the wrong categorie or haven’t found a post regarding my question. But this is keeping my awake and I need answers, so I just created this acount.

Greetings from Austria

Hello @Mega_Print !

OctoKlipper and Klipper are basically the same.

OctoKlipper is a OctoPi/OctoPrint with a Klipper installation, where OctoPi is the OS and OctoPrint is the web interface.

Klipper itself is the firmware solution, that can come with Moonraker and Mainsail/Fluidd

For a better understanding you may have a look here:

Ok thank you @EddyMI3D .

I read often that octoprint will slow the printer down because it is too slow for klipper and klipper has to wait for it to catch up.

So is this a hoax then?

And while installing klipper, do i have to change something because of the tmc 2209 or not?

This is wrong or to give a bit more context, only half the truth:

  • If you use the gcode selection in Octoprint to start a print, this will bypass Klipper’s virtual_sdcard feature, which may lead to reduced streaming speeds of the gcode
  • If you start your print with the dedicated virtual_sdcard commands, this limitation does not apply

You just need to configure Klipper accordingly and this depends on the board you are using.
