Describe your issue:
Completed Klipper Pressure advance test & updated the setting to .085; Cura sliced test cube shown: 3 sides are excellent, sharp corners. The fourth side (increasing along Y-axis) is crappy! Around that corner (decreasing X-axis) is a bit rough, but not as bad. Again, the opposite side (decreasing along Y-axis) is excellent. Any thoughts on what’s going on or how to address would be appreciated.
FYI- extruder calibration & input shaping have all been done. Belts are tight, everything lubed, z-offset & bed mesh are dead on with excellent first layer results. Dimensional accuracy is less than +/-4%. Square was printed with 0.2 height & speed dialed down to 100, acceleration 1000, 0.4 nozzle. Cura’s jerk and coast are disabled, outer wall wipe distance is set to 0.5
Been a minute since I used Cura. As I recall there are settings for “retract on layer change” and “extra length on de-retract” that could be effecting the one corner.
Quick check - set seam to “random” and reslice and print.
I assume you’re referring to the location for the Z-axis shift. It’s currently set for the “sharpest corner” but I’ll set to “random” and reprint. The defect starts ~5mm before the relevant corner. In the meantime, here’s a calibration cube that hopefully shows the location better. The defective seam feels rough, and is visibly irregular.
Changed the seam option to RANDOM. All of the edges now show periodic distortion. Obviously the origin of the problem is the Z-seam associated settings, although what, I’m not sure. At least now I have the problem narrowed down and can play with the various settings to see what clears the issue. So thank you!!
Maybe some changes in other parameter like acceleration, retract, coasting, …?
e.g. coasting has to be switched off in the slicer, or the higher the acceleration, the lower the PA Value, …
In my case I readjust/set the PA Value to my needs on the fly, from time to time, if I face issues with my prints.
Retraction distance increased from 1 to 5mm (the extruder has a long filament path), and I moved Z seam to inside (instead of random). The outside corner is somewhat better, but most of the issues seem to have moved to the inside on the same corner. The two pictures are of the same corner. Appears the problem is still there…
Sorry, that was a typo. The actual PA is 0.085, and that was derived from Klippers PA test print. Prior setting (much lower) was giving me bulging corners, which have now cleared up, except for this one side. BTW the printer is a Mercury-One CoreXY conversion of an ender 5 plus…
I’m working on entering the appropriate values into PrusaSlicer, my other go-to slicer. I’ll post results when done
I may just have to give up on klipper & go back to jerk & coast settings. Corners weren’t perfect but better than this nonsense!
cardoc: I misstated - I meant the hot end, and it takes about 22mm to unload filament. The temps are probably on, but even if significantly off, I don’t see how that would effect one corner only
