Problem with extruder motor

Describe your issue:

Summary: extruder motor control stopped working and doesn’t work any more. All relevant components exchanged with no success. Happy to debug - just don’t know how.

Setup: Ender-5 in a core-xy setup, with the Creality 1.1.5 board. MicroSwiss DirectDrive extruder. RPi3 runs klipper with fluidd. Additional arduino nano provides PWM signal to 5V fans.

Symptoms: no extrusion possible. On a G0/1 command to extruder, the motor jerks once (regardless of distance/speed specified) and then disengages (can be rotated freely). No further extruder command moves the motor until a FIRMWARE_RESTART. Klipper doesn’t seem to mind and produces no relevant errors/warnings in the logs. Extruder motor works fine with the signal for any other axis. Similarly, all remaining motors misbehave in the same way when connected to the extruder stepper driver.

I have exchanged the motor, the wiring (between the motherboard and the motor) and even the motherboard itself. Nothing helps.
