Shutting down during prints

Basic Information:

Printer Model: Custom artisan/single extruder
MCU / Printerboard: BTT Octopus 1.1 Pro
klippy.log

Describe your issue:

After running the latest updates, my printer has shut off twice during long prints. I have been able to get most of the prints completed but I want to know why the two prints ended with Klipper shutting down mid-print.
The g-code files I am printing are files I have printed in the past without issues. It seems to do it when the print is large or multiple items at once.
I am including my Moonraker logs with this post.
moonraker (1).log (45.2 KB)

klippy.log (7.9 MB)
I had to remove some of the printing lines from the Klipper log file to get under the 8MB limit for this site. I only removed ‘normal’ print lines.

I have a BTT smart filament sensor on this printer. Could it be the issue?

Please upload an unmodified log as zip

Yeah, I didn’t think of zipping it up. Thanks.
klippy.zip (305.2 KB)
moonraker.log (10.3 KB)

The crashes are random.
These two log files are from my latest crash.

On the screen, after it crashes, it says

“cannot update MCU ‘mcu’ config as it is shut down
once the underlying issue is corrected, use the
‘FIRMWARE RESTART’ command to reset the firmware,
reload the config, and restart the host software.
Error configuring printer”

I then restart the printer by doing a complete power down and it boots fine.
So far, I have not tried any repairs but I am thinking of reloading the firmware to my board (BTT Octopus 1.1 Pro).

EDIT** I found a line that says the extruder is not heating as expected. I am going over this issue and will report back.

So I tried to calibrate my bed mesh. I ran my temps up to 235 and 60 before I started the calibration. The temps reach the desired range and I can home all axis but when I use Klipper screen to start the calibration my printer shuts down and this comes up-

Heater extruder not heating at expected rate
See the ‘verify_heater’ section in docs/Config_Reference.md
for the parameters that control this check.

Once the underlying issue is corrected, use the
“FIRMWARE_RESTART” command to reset the firmware, reload the
config, and restart the host software.
Printer is shutdown

After I reboot the printer and look at the temps, they are fine.
I then tried to calibrate the bed mesh without raising the temps and it works fine.

Going by your log the problem is your heater.
Most likely:

  • defect heater cartridge
  • flaky wiring
  • flaky connector

What hotend are you running, I had similar issues with a bad Revo.

thanks for the awesome information.

Just to follow up on this problem, I found the heater cartridge for my hot end was faulty. The wire connecting to the actual cartridge was loose enough to cause the error.

I have a mosquito-hot end.
