Vertical edges are not vertical

Basic Information:

Printer Model: Prusa i3MK3S+
MCU / Printerboard: Einsy-Rambo
Host / SBC: RPi 5

Fill out above information and in all cases attach your klippy.log file (use zip to compress it, if too big). Pasting your printer.cfg is not needed

Describe your issue:

When printing a L-shaped object (35mmx20mm) of about 200mm tall vertically, the resulting edge is not straight but bent. Tried several times using different PLA filaments but same problem. Could you please let me know the cause and how to fix it?

Similarly, when printing a test bar of 4mm thick, the profile shows that the edges are not straight vertically but tilted as shown in the below figure. I don’t think it is a layer shift. What went wrong and how to fix it?

For easy viewing, I am exaggerating the drawings a bit but when I paid close attention or put a vertical object next to the edges, I can see that they are not straight.

Sounds like a mechanical problem to me.
Maybe loose pulleys or skipped steps or belts are loose too.

If you carefully and slowly move the print head by hand, is it moving smoothly?

I wouldn’t say crazy super butter smooth but relatively smooth.

Such issues are hard to diagnose. Generally speaking:

  • No known cases have been caused by Klipper
  • Typically, they result from mechanical issues such as:
    • Gantry or axes not being square or perpendicular
    • Different belt tensions
    • Binding axes
  • If the printer is losing steps can be checked with the approach detailed in Can I find out whether the printer has lost steps?
  • There have also been rare reports with obscure reasons, e.g. this one.

So it has nothing to do with the filament?

In case of mechanical issue, shouldn’t the profile of the 4mm thick test bar be a parallelogram rather than an inverted trapezoid?

what is the result when you slow the movement of everything way, way down - so it’s just crawling? Does the trapezoidal effect become less?
