Describe your issue:

I Just upgraded my MCU on my Kobra Plus to a BTT SKR 3 mini and it is amazing so far. Currently I have all the basics setup and the printer is running great so far. I am now looking into further upgrades to my Klipper config mainly the z-tilt adjustment. The kobra plus has the dual z steppers connected with a timing belt at the top of the z gantry. My question is, once I configure the z-tilt feature and have the z motors working independently, should the timing belt that connects the two at the top of the lead screws be removed? I’ve done some research on this and can’t find a clear answer. Thanks.

Hello @ObiTwo !

In the end, you only have a single stepper motor for the z-axes. So Z-tilt makes no sense. You need two independent Z-axes steppers.

Please attach the klippy.log to your next post.

thanks for your reply. the klippy log is attached. Just to clarify, the Kobra Plus come with two independent z-motors, however the stock config has the second slaved to the first z-motor. since the SKR 3 EZ has a 5th stepper driver, I can configure the second z-motor to move independently. The configuration settings are pretty clear, it’s just that I’m not sure if I need to remove the belt at the top of the z-screws to set this feature up.

If you want to run them independently, you have to remove the belt. Else they are still coupled.

For homing you need either an endstop for each z-axes or one probe or bltouch.

Doing the Z-tilt adjust, you need the latter one anyway.

Great, thanks for confirming. Also I do have a probe newly installed and working well.
