Ender 3 v2 HELP

Hi All,

Been holding off on posting in any of the various Klipper communities because there is such a great deal of guides and posts already but I’m finally stuck.

System:

  • Ender 3 v2
    * Stock except for the following upgrades:
    * PEI Bed
    * Aluminum Extruder
    * Capricorn Bowden Tube
    * Microswiss Hardened 0.4mm Nozzle
    * Orange bed springs

  • Firmware

    • Klipper
    • Fluidd
  • Slicer

    • Started with Cura, switched to SuperSlicer
  • Issue:

  • Poor print quality - stringing and blobs

  • Troubleshooting steps:

  • Preheat bed to operating temp (70C)

  • Manual bed level

  • Mesh bed level using CR touch

  • Set Z-offset with PROBE_CALIBRATE

  • G29

  • Calibrate E-steps

  • Pressure Advance Tuning

  • Firmware Retraction Tuning

    • Starting at 5mm retraction distance at 40mm/s and working up
  • Tried multiple brands of filament both PLA and PETG

TL;DR: I cant get decent print quality and believe I’ve tried all of the applicable troubleshooting steps. Looking for some direction for what to troubleshoot next.

Should I just pull the trigger on a microswiss direct drive/hot end combo? Was hoping to get the stock extruder and hot end dialed in before upgrading the hardware but I’m starting to think that is the next step.

Logs attached for reference:

printer.cfg

moonraker.log

Have you tried drying the filament or PID tuning?

Apart from minor things, there is nothing special in your cfg:

  • too high retract speed
  • arc is not needed with Klipper and rather detrimental than beneficial

Since it is not clear what your actual problems are: Most quality issues are due to mechanical issues (loose components, friction, frame not properly aligned, axes not properly aligned, guide wheels too tight / loose, belts too tight / loose etc.)

Blobs and stringing could be due to:
for all metal hotend: filament sticking to rough or not aligned hotend parts (especially between throat and nozzle)
large and/or too fast retractions (did you run retraction calibration test? 5mm is already high, higher retractions tend to cause clogging)
for PTFE lined throats: gap between tube and nozzle
miscalibrated extruder
extruder wheel slipping
extruder wheel out of round
z axis sticking or wobly
I would turn off pressure advance until issue is fixed
