Describe your issue:

Hey,
I have changed to direct drive setup, the stepmotor cable was too short, so I changed to one which is longer. After installing it it makes a weird sound, and sometimes doesn’t even work… I tried putting back the old one, and it was normal. I tried with the others motors, but they didn’t work at all.
I verified if the cables was in the correct direction because I saw that a few peoples were having the cable inversed. But not my case.
Here is the cable I got from amazon : Cable

I was scared to brake anything so I stop everything and I am waiting for your awnsers.
Thanks in advance.

Honestly, what answer do you expect?
If you want to increase the length of your cable you need to:

  • Secure that it is a 1:1 extension
  • Secure it has proper contact on both ends
  • Secure that the cable has a sufficient cross section (e.g. AWG rating) to satisfy the power demands of the stepper (usually not an issue)

There is no magical sauce or anything else involved.

Hey,
My fault, I saw a bit the comments and they said two cables has to be inversed because on the ender 3, it has crossed cables. I crossed them and now it works perfectly.
Thx.
