Describe your issue:
I have recently installed a Mellow Fly SHT 42 on my Voron and keep on having extruder problems. After about 1.5 hours print time the extruder just stops turning, which causes the filament sensor (SFS 2.0) to trigger and pause the print. Aftger a few print fails i changed the cable from the stepper to the board, but i’m still getting the same behavior. I have a feeling that the stepper driver on the board is getting too hot, thus stopping the print. So i have changed it from 0.5 to 0.3 current, but still same behavior. Could it be that the motor is somehow broken? Any other ideas?
There is no apparent error. For me, it looks like your filament sensor is misfiring. Deactivate it, and if the problem is gone, then you have found the culprit.
I agree with @Sineos This happened to me before where the extruder would pause between moves, causing mini blobs to be deposited on the print.
If your extruder isn’t turning mid print, that points to a deeper hardware issue. Check for hotend jams, friction in the filament path, a tangled spool, etc.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately i still haven’t found the culprit. Yesterday i took the extruder apart, but everything looked fine to me. So i started to print again and i had a fail after about 30 min in. When i tried to extrude filament while the print was paused using the load filament macro i noticed that the nylon wheel was not turning, when i gave it a little force by hand, it started turning again. So i thought it could be that the motor was not getting enough power so i upped the current from 0.5 to 0.8 and resumed the print. This time it worked for a longer period of time (2h) until i noticed the sht42 getting very hot (101 C), being mounted on the back of the extruder motor, so i reduced the current while printing to 0.6. The print stopped immediatly. So i thought, thats it and upped the current again to 0.8, but the extruder would not start turning until pushed by hand and after that stopped shortly after I resumed printing. Maybe the motor is getting too hot or is that a sign for a failing motor?
