Having trouble wiring MKS TMC 5160 pros to stepper

Basic Information:

Printer Model: voron trident
MCU / Printerboard: fysec spider 2.3
Host / SBC: Opi 3b
klippy.log: hardware issue, probably won’t say anything

Describe your issue:

I can’t seem to get my right stepper working. I got my left one working, but my right stepper is jittery.

What I know:

  1. the phases on the drivers are like this: [A1,A2,B1,B2]
  2. the pins for the phases on the motors I’m using. From the left the 1st and 3rd are one phase, and 4th and 6th are the the other.
  3. The wire colors for each phase coming from the driver. Red is A2, Blue is A1, Green is B2, BLack is A1.

the one thing I can’t figure out is which way I need to put the wires into the motor. I’ve tried these two combinations in the motor end with the motor just jittering.
[red, blue, black, green], [blue, red, black, green], & [red, blue, green, black]. that’s from left to right looking at the connecter with the motor facing up.

I’m running out of ideas here. I’ve got maybe two possibilities left at the motor end. maybe someone good at stepper motor/driver diagnostics can help. I haven’t tmc dumped the Y stepper yet, that I recall.

Provide the part number / photos (showing part number / connections) of stepper.

The stepper motors was a custom order so I doubt there’s a part number. I’d need to look, I did list out the phases I found by a multimeter if that helps

If they are a custom order, there should be a data sheet for them that you could supply.

If they are an entirely random batch, are you sure that they haven’t been damaged, or don’t have manufacturing defects, causing the issue?

Ditto with the drivers themselves…

Have you tested the ‘possibly bad’ stepper on the ‘known good’ (left) driver?
Or have you tested the ‘good’ (left) stepper on the ‘possibly bad’ (right) driver?

Not yet. I have 3 more MKS steppers and 2 other custom motors from the same batch. I tried with the two spares with similar results so not likely stepper related.
I don’t think they mailed me a spec sheet, just the test report. I need to check Alibaba for the spec sheet probably

If you’re confident about the steppers, and you tried several of them with the same issue on the same driver.
And they don’t have the issue on other drivers… then it sounds like the driver is your issue.
Either an incorrect configuration, or a faulty driver.

I just tried a different MKS 5160 with still the same results. and I’ve tried all 4 combinations I narrowed it down to at the motor end. It just makes a loud sound and that’s it.

it appears to be faulty motors… I got 3 faulty ones out of a batch of 4. I plugged the Y motor into the driver I know is correct and it jittered quite a bit.

Unfortunately this can be a challenge ordering from the likes of AliBaba / AliExpress. You might have gotten exactly what you asked for, but it wasn’t what you wanted… or you might have gotten a complete dud.

Generally if you order something particular ‘standard’ and not ‘super special’, you’re a bit safer. If something has exceptionally high holding torque, or a ridiculously high advertised speed… they’re pretty good signs that you’re not going to get something workable.
