PID Tuning verification or do I have a problem?

Basic Information:

Printer Model: Artillery Sidewinder X-1
MCU / Printerboard: Gen-L

So, started to rebuild an old Artillery Sidewinder X1 with a new Bondtech XLG & Mosquito Magnum+ hot end (I know, kinda like putting $2000 wheels and tires on a 1973 Ford Pinto, but it was just sitting there needing some TLC). So, I decided since I was upgrading things, I’d put Klipper on as well.

So far, everything is working properly and all post-install checks are working as expected. So, I moved on to PID tuning for the hot-end. Being my first time setting up Klipper on a machine, I’m not sure what I should expect to see while doing tuning, so is screen-snip from Octoprint expected? Or, is it normal?

What seems to be happening is when tuning at 190, it heats up to 190 as expected, but as soon as the heater hits 190, the temp drops to 185, but the heater keeps going until it gets close to 200 before it cools back down to 185. Could this be a bad thermistor, or merely something off in my config?

Suggestions on where to start looking? Or, should I just ignore it and start melting some plastic?

Thanks in advance!

Hello @SkippyTheMagnificent !

That is to be expected for the PID tuning session.
With this Klipper (and also Marlin) calculates the PID parameters.

You can check the PID by setting a preheat temp and watching the heat up. You don’t want much overshooting, ringing, or not getting to temp. As Eddy said your seeing Klipper calculating the PID coefficients.

Thanks, and yeah… I understand what it’s doing. My concern (however so poorly worded) was mostly about how high the temps would go OVER the baseline temp by over 10C. But, it sounds like that’s normal, so I won’t worry about it.

Thank you all, again!
