TMC 'extruder' reports error

Since the end of December my two printers have both been giving me the TMC ‘extruder’ reports GSTAT: 00000001 reset=1(Reset). Usually within the first couple of layers of the print. The documentation suggests either a wiring or voltage issue. Both machines were running a BTT octopus board with a 240W power supply. I have replaced the BTT TMC2209 stepsticks on each machine several times and replaced the extruder stepper motors. I have upgraded the power supplies to a 350W unit and recently went from the BTT octopus board to a BTT octopus pro board. Replacing the main board seemed to help one of the printers but the other printer is still giving me the extruder reset issue. Looking through some of the other threads I tried setting stealthchop_threshold = 0, replacing the usb cable, swapping out the raspberry pi, and setting microsteps = 16. I usually run with the Fluidd interface but I tried Mainsail also. Nothing made a difference.

After the reset, these were my values from the tmc dump:

I have attached the klippy log in case it shows anything beyond the reset. The picture shows the first two layers of a print that failed. The print quality is not very good and that to me would indicate it really is a hardware issue. Maybe try a something other than the BTT stepstick?

Thanks for any help.

There are already extensive topics on this issue:

Please be so kind to search the already available resources before opening a new topic.

I stated in my message that I had looked through other threads - including the two you posted - and did not find a solution to this problem. I wasn’t sure whether to continue on with one of those or start a new one. Looks like it would have been best to keep it together.

Yes, please keep them together as typically a new thread will not yield any new results.

FWIW, the people who have been able to solve this issue (including myself), did so by fixing some defect or at least fishy components:

  • Driver itself
  • Stepper
  • Cable
  • Board
