TMC'stepper z' reports error: GSTAT: 00000004 uv_cp=1 (Undervoltage!)

Printer Model: RatRig Vcore 3
MCU / Printerboard: Octopus 1.1

Describe your issue:

Upgrading vcore from version 3 to 3.1 and took opportunity to make some other upgrades. This included installing Octopus 1.1 board and just generally cleaning up wiring and things on it. Got it running tonight and having issue that is driving me crazy. When it Z Homes or does Z Tilt it randomly will show the following error.

TMC’stepper z’ reports error: GSTAT: 00000004
uv_cp=1 (Undervoltage!)
Once the underlying issue is corrected…

I’ve swapped stepper drivers (TMC 2209) around on board to see if that fixed it, didnt. I dont have any extra stepper cables to see if that is issue but they are exact ones i was using before i changed board and rebuilt machine. I ordered some drivers and cables from amazon so i can try completely new ones and just return them if that isnt it.

Any other suggestions? Do i need to adjust the potentiometer on the drivers? how much?

Thanks!

Have you checked the stepper voltage?

If I knew best way to do that I would. Care to share how?

Most likely:

  • Wiring issue
  • Power supply issue
  • Dead stepper

Troubleshooting:

  • Move TMC module
  • Connect another stepper, e.g. the X stepper to Z etc
  • Check jumpers on your board, i.e. USB supply vs. main voltage etc
  • Check the output voltage of the PSU with a multimeter.

Output voltage of power supply is very steady at 24 volts and change, both at idle and while moving. Changed cables to z steppers out, still error. Replaced z stepper drivers and so far no error. Even wrote some gcode to move bed up and down over and over again to see if error would get triggered. Cautiously optimistic it was a bad stepper driver
