Picked this printer up 2nd hand a couple of weeks ago. After extensive trial and error, some tears, a fair bit of cursing and A LOT of reading, I managed to get it to successfully print out a couple of things.
Sadly, that is where the fun ended. The hotend clogged, so I stripped it and cleared it out. Put it back together and now the feeder motor does not seem to be working. It just clicks back and forth, and will not feed any filament through!
So, I have gone through the usual substitution fault finding steps I can think of. Looked at the motor - Looks OK
Swapped connection on MCU - fault stays with the motor
Replaced the cable - Fault persists
Swapped TMC2208 Driver - Fault stays where it is
Replaced with NEW motor - Still nothing
Clean install of Klipper & Firmware and started printer.cfg from scratch - Nothing!
So, that brings me to you wonderful lot… Please help, what have I missed? Anyone had anything similar?
I would check the cable to your extruder motor. You are probably not the first one who pulled on the cable. You need some force to pull it and those are usually AWG ((best 18) to 22) → tiny and maybe old. You might take a close look at the extruder side, where the crimping was made. Usually they break there and your motor might not get enough power. That might cause the
We have a winner (I think)!! Just gave the connector at the motor end a good wiggle whilst extruding and it worked!! Started shuddering as soon as I let go again though, so I am ordering some new cables. Just in-loomed this one and it’s looking a bit of a mess! I’ll let you know how I get on.
Yep it’s a winner!! Took the cable to work and replaced the black wire (open circuit when I tested it). Motor is now working as it should!! Thank you everyone for your help and support!
