Sooo. . .
I have a webcam that works with all of my computers, so its not too old. I can’t get it to connect to my btt cb1. I don’t know if I am trying the wrong ports, or maybe I am setting it up wrong, but here is my crowsnest.cfg.
[crowsnest]
log_path: ~/printer_data/logs/crowsnest.log
log_level: verbose # Valid Options are quiet/verbose/debug
delete_log: false # Deletes log on every restart, if set to true
[cam 1]
mode: mjpeg
port: 8080
device: /dev/video1
resolution: 640x480
max_fps: 100
My webcam settings are all basic. I have a btt manta m8p with a btt cb1, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Ahhh. . .
I finally figured it out. Sometimes uninstalling something and then putting it back is the solution. I followed the offiicial Mainsail site’s instructions on how to do it, and it worked!
Happy Printing!

Are you using a usb camera plugged into the usb2.0 port? Trying to figure out what camera to get for the Manta M8P with CB1
Hello,
Yes, looking down on the manta m8p I am using the usb 2.0 port on the top. In theory any usb camera should work. I am using the old microsoft lifecam vx-5000 as discussed in this post I made: Ultrawide fov webcam. It works great when paired with the lenses I discussed in that post as well. I would refrain from using the pi cameras, the type that plug into the raspberry pi dsi camera port, as the cables are flimsy. Users have also reported that cameras of this type are buggy with the m8p. In conclusion, get a usb camera. If you want over 100 degrees of view, check out the post I linked above on how to do it. If you need any more help feel free to ask on the post above as this post is marked as solved.
Happy Printing,
Blake
My understanding is that the CB1 does not support dsi at all, that’s why I went Octopus + RPi instead. Don’t discount the durability of the PiCam ribbon cables, I have been running mine over 800h on the moving gantry with a 36" Generic Amazon cable, it has kinks and bends in it and still works very well.
I meant that the cb1 /manta m8p does not work well with the ribbon cables. Not that the cables are bad lol.
Hello,
On a side note what camera did you use for your nozzle cam?
Thanks,
Blake
Rpicam2 with an extended imx219 remote camera module, like this one:
Camera Module for Raspberry Pi 2/3/B+, 1080P HD 8MP Camera Module 77.6° Field View https://a.co/d/7iJIuu5
It appears there are also extension cables available now.
Been running it since late 2020 and it’s been very good for me.
I dont understand? You followed what Mainsail installation guide? How did you get it working?
Hello,
This is the guide for how to install your Crowsnest file if you were to do it manually. I simply uninstalled and reinstalled Crowsnest according to this webpage and it worked!
Hope this helps,
Blake
