Describe your issue:
Hi,
I recently purchased a SKR Pico board, and am having trouble getting it to show up to flash firmware. I have attached the BOOT jumper and USB Power jumpers.
I have tried:
Plugging it into my MacBook and PC to see if it shows up as a flash drive
Plugging in into my RPi400 and RPi4 to see if it shows up in lsusb
Removing all USB hubs and other devices
Pressing the reset button before, while, and after plugging in the board
Three different USB-C cables, all of which worked for other serial devices
The output of dmesg also remains unchanged if I plug it in, or not.
I just tried it with one of mine and I got a couple of satisfying beeps on a Windows 11 machine.
There’s a red LED that turns on when you plug the board into a PC - it’s by the boot jumper and is powered by the 3V3 LDO on the board. Is this coming on?
If it’s not coming on, then take a DMM and check the voltage on the (X/Y/Z) Endstop probe connectors - it has 5V and GND connections. See if you’re getting 5V there.
If you’re not, then check your cables and USB Power jumper.
I you are getting 5V at the Endstop probe connectors then you’re board is NFG. If it’s new, hopefully you can return it.
I guess I didn’t try all the possible permutations of cable and computer…I plugged it into my PC with the cable that came with it and now it works. It doesn’t show up on my Mac, not even in Disk Utility, but if it shows up in any computer, it’s fine.
Can I ask what kind of cables you tried before the one that came with the SKR Pico?
I’m asking because I just ran around and tried my Pico on my:
Windows 11 PC
Windows 10 Laptop
Ubuntu 24.10 PC
Macbook Air
Macbook Mini
Without any issues - on all of the systems, I could see the Pico as a Mass Storage Device from the desktop.
Along with the cable that came with the Pico, I used one of my basic go-to cables, which I buy at a local discount store here in Canada:
I’m curious because I’ve never had the issues that other people have with USB cables and it’s not like I’m buying name brands or even ones from stores that specialize in electronics.
I was using mostly USB-C charging cables that had data support. At least two of the four I ended up trying have worked before on my FYSETC Portable Input Shaper.
That is strange…it might be the USB-C dongle I use on my Mac. I sometimes have to switch which USB port I plug stuff into. Time to get a new dongle!
From the left to right, I tested if each cable works with the SKR and my iPhone, plugged into a PC. By “works”, I mean it shows up as a USB device.

I think I got some of my working cables mixed up, since I recently got a MMB CAN V1.0, and went through multiple USB-C cables to filter out the charging vs. data cables.
Maybe if USB-C cables weren’t all the same black color…
