Step loss by heat

Basic Information:

Printer Model: vcore 3.1
MCU / Printerboard: octopus pro + ebb42
Host / SBC rpi 4
klippy.log not included, to big

Describe your issue:

Hi,

In the area where I live, the heat has returned, and with it, the problems in printing, almost all of them, sooner or later with layer shifting…

Is there any way to confirm that the loss of steps is due to excess temperature? (At the moment it is only a suspicion) Perhaps some record in the log as if the driver has lost steps due to excess temperature..

You could “zip” it and then upload here.

You need to differentiate your potential issues:

  • Heat creep in the extruder mechanics can lead to softening of the filament already in the cold end components of your extruder → Leading to issues during extrusion.
  • Heat in the stepper drivers usually leads to weird error messages.
  • Heat in the stepper motor is more rarely an issue. See 4. Stepper Motor Temperature: What’s Normal?

For lost steps see Can I find out whether the printer has lost steps?
