Unable to connect to MCU after update

Describe your issue:

So I haven’t used my printer in a few months. Fired it up and of course there was an update for EVERYTHING. Updated one by one, rebooting after each update (had an issue before where I didn’t and had to reinstall Kliper entirely - lesson learned). Finally did the “System - OS-Packages” update last. Reboot and now it won’t connect. I’m guessing it has something to do with the Bullseye bug I saw the post about.

The other problem is that I don’t remember my un/pw to login to the pi through putty. I can connect and browse the filesystem with WinSCP just fine though. I of course tried the default pi/raspberry and that didn’t work.

How can I access it so I can check if its affected by the bug?

If you have saved your user and password in WinSCP then you can use WinSCP to also open a terminal window (Commands → Open Terminal). Here you can use the passwd command to change your password

I actually was able to count the characters in the saved WinSCP password and got in. I ran the code in the Bullseye bug post and sure enough that’s gotta be it. I did the rest, updated all the packages and I’m still having the same problem.

Edit: forgot to run “sudo apt install udev -t bullseye-backports” afterwards. That’s updating now…

After a update to the new klipper version i was not able anymore to connect the printer.
I have also build the firmware again, and installed it with the sd card.

But not able to connect to the printer.
I can’t get an mcu ID.
It looks like my odroid C2 doesn’t reconize the usb port.

Sorry, didn’t read everything well.

Now i dit and fixed the NO-PUBKEY.
after that i did: sudo apt install udev -t bullseye-backports
then: sudo reboot

after the reboot i started: ./kiauh/kiauh.sh
then advanced (4), then get MCU ID (5) then USB (1)

but again:

No MCU found!
MCU either not connected or not detected!

Trying for hours now, but still i can’t connect to th MCU.

i tried a webcan, and that device is reconized.
What can it be? and how can i fix this.

i would i never had updated the software, even when i flash the old firmware, the MCU is not reconized

Post the output of

apt-cache policy udev

Also:

  1. Disconnect the board from the RPi
  2. Reconnect it
  3. Run sudo dmesg
  4. Post the output

That is all after disconnecting / reconnecting the board?
If so, there is no single trace that your SBC has recognized your board as a connected USB device. This is quite strange.

Run sudo dmesg -w then disconnect and reconnect your board. Something should be happening in the output. If not, try a different USB port or cable.

If such pasted information is too long, you can of course also attach a text file or your something like pastebin.

Yes, it looks like the SBC doesn’t reconize my printerboard (SKR 3 EZ), but i have also an usb webcam on the SBC, and when i plug / unplug this device i see that it is reconized.

This is bad news. As long as your board is not even recognized by the Linux OS, there is nothing that could be done on Klipper side.
As such, you cannot even reflash the board, although I doubt that it would change things.

You can try to connect the board to a different computer and check if it is recognized. Or, if available, connect a different board to your SBC to check if this is recognized.

I have another controller board, an old creality board, and this board is reconized by the SBC

I would not think so. If the board’s hardware is intact, then it should at least give some signs of life when attached.
Basically the board is more or less a regular USB device, like the webcam, a keyboard, mouse etc. The magic happens between the installed firmware and the Klipper host running on the computer. So at least the board should somehow say hello to the computer.

You can try to press and hold the BOOT button on the board, then press RESET then let go the BOOT button. If the board is then recognized, then there is hope.

after that i started ./kiauh/kiauh.sh

but when i seect option 3) USB (dfu mode) i get an ID

In DFU mode you cannot use the board but just program it.
What you can try now (long shot: Somehow your bootloader got killed)

  1. Get the bootloader here; Dropbox - SKR3_Bootloader.bin - Simplify your life (I guess thanks to @NAPCAL)
  2. Install https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stm32cubeprog.html
  3. Connect the board in DFU mode (just as you did now)
  4. Erase all
  5. Flash the bootloader
  6. Build a new klipper.bin and flash via SD card
  7. Hope for the best
